We have decided to run with the idea of celebrating the 40 years of Fiction Records in a narrative response featuring all the bands they've worked with in different eras and taking inspiration from how their design and aesthetic has developed and changed over the years.
Collaboration in the creative industry is
extremely important as some artists/creatives may need some work created for
them that they don’t have the skills to do themselves. For example, a musician
would like help when creating their music videos and tour videos. So their
label would also have a say in this. But a musician would also need an
illustrator/graphic designer/photographer to design their album artworks, tour
posters, logos etc. They might have multiple creatives doing different things
therefore they’d have to collaborate and get rights so they can all create work
together.
In this project I collaborated with my group by trying out animation doodles over film and video that the filmmaker came up with. In doing this I have learnt new skills, especially from using After Effects for the first time. As I had a filmmaker in my group this was an advantage as I was able to get help and advice from him when using this programme.
Another example of collaboration was when we had to come up with a 1 minute video before we started our final outcome, and we decided to create a film about a friends mum and dad's wedding song. The friends' parents met in London then her mum moved back to Manchester and every Friday her dad would drive up to meet her mum which is how they came to pick Friday I'm in Love as their wedding song.
As I am working on my digital illustrations I found collaborating useful as learning and working with After Effects allowed me to draw digitally to create animation on videos/film that the others in my group came up with.
